National Assembly Speaker on Sidelines of Inauguration of President of Guatemala

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic was in Guatemala today, where, as the envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, he attended the inauguration of the President of the Republic of Guatemala Bernardo Arevalo de Leon.

On the occasion, Serbia received special respect by having two bilateral meetings with the hosts. In the meetings with the Vice President of the Republic of Guatemala Karin Herrera and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala Carlos Ramiro Martinez Alvarado, Dr Orlic thanked the officials for their hospitality, congratulating them on their election to the abovementioned positions and wished them every success in the performance of their duties. He expressed his belief that the newly appointed leadership of the Republic of Guatemala will contribute to the further improvement of friendly bilateral relations between the two countries.

Dr Orlic expressed his gratitude for the principled position of the Republic of Guatemala regarding the non-recognition of so-called "Kosovo", which also confirms this country's adherence to the principles of international law.

The highest officials of the Republic of Guatemala thanked the Republic of Serbia for its presence at the event, which is extremely important for their country, and expressed their willingness to further strengthen and develop the two countries’ joint work in the coming period. Both sides confirmed their commitment to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas that offer opportunities for it, especially the economy, science and education.

In the conversation with the Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic Roberto Alvarez there was talk of further improvement of relations between the two countries and ways to develop cooperation in the field of economy, investments and tourism were.

The National Assembly Speaker informed all the officials he spoke with in Guatemala in detail about the current situation in Kosovo-Metohija and reminded them of the Republic of Serbia’s determination to preserve peace, dialogue as the only way to reach a solution, as well as its commitment to its own further development and progress.

On the sidelines, Dr Orlic also met with the President of Costa Rica Rodrigo Chaves Robles, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice President of the Parliament of the Republic of Honduras Eduardo Enrique Reina Garcia, as well as representatives of numerous other delegations. The meetings were also attended by H.E. Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Mexico Tatjana Conic.
