National Assembly Speaker at Celebration of International Roma Day

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic spoke today at the gathering held in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to celebrate International Roma Day.

Congratulating the holiday to all Roma men and women in the Republic of Serbia, he emphasised the state's commitment to constantly improve their position, eliminate all social inequality and work intensively to ensure that no community is left out or discriminated against in any respect.

He reminded the attending that our country has a comprehensive and high-quality legislative framework, which ensures and fundamentally improves the position of minority communities, marginalised and so-called invisible social groups. In order to successfully implement the aforementioned legislative framework, he added, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of Serbia, as well as local levels of government, are cooperating closely on implementing the state policy of the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic. "I want to thank you because you are always on the side of Serbia, on the side of the state policy which means progress in every sense and enables us to strengthen, support and include the Roma community in all aspects of socio-political life today. And we do not declare every success achieved along the way a job well done and finished, on the contrary, it is just an additional impulse to continue to improve the position of Roma and all other national minorities, aware that their potential strongly contributes to our joint efforts on Serbia’s further development”, said Dr Orlic.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia stressed that the Roma, like all other communities in Serbia, can, as before, count on the support of the state, expressing particular satisfaction with the fact that among the deputies of the 13th legislature of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia there are members of the Roma community who initiate dialogue and discussions on numerous topics of importance for the state, at the same time providing an immeasurable contribution to the work of the Assembly and the implementation of state policy.
