National Assembly Speaker and Federation Council Chairperson: Committed to Promoting Cooperation
National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic, currently in official visit to the Russian Federation, met with the Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko.
Matviyenko said that the Serbian Assembly Speaker’s visit to Moscow lends particular impetus to the two countries’ parliamentary cooperation.
The Federation Council Chairperson said that despite the economic relations’ positive dynamics, there is still room for further development and that additional liberalisation within the free trade regime and increased investments are currently being considered. She added that though project South Stream was cancelled, there is room to further develop energy cooperation with Serbia.
Gojkovic agreed that there is room to improve economic cooperation stressing that the National Assembly would endorse the development of these relations, within its purview.
Gojkovic urged for the improvement of interparliamentary cooperation at the level of working bodies and parliamentary friendship groups within the agreement on interparliamentary cooperation.
Yesterday, the Serbian Assembly Speaker also met with State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin and afterwards addressed the deputies of the State Duma.
