National Assembly Speaker Talks to Slovenian National Council President

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic received a delegation of the Slovenian National Council, headed by Council President Mitja Bervar.

The National Assembly Speaker thanked Slovenia for its prompt response in aid of flood-stricken Serbia.
“Your assistance is very significant because it helped up save many lives, and, most importantly, prevent an even worse catastrophe”, said the National Assembly Speaker.
The Slovenian National Council President thanked the National Assembly Speaker for receiving the delegation in such a difficult time for Serbia and extended condolences on the casualties of the floods.
“I am happy that the people in Slovenia were quick to organise and respond to the Serbian Government’s appeal for help”, said Bervar.
Bervar also informed the National Assembly Speaker that Slovenia is to send additional assistance to Serbia via the country’s Red Cross which had prepared 25,000 EUR of financial assistance for Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina each, as well as 50,000 EUR worth of relief goods.
“I am glad that the people of Slovenia have organised and started raising humanitarian aid” said Bervar, adding how good it was that the closeness and good relations between the two nations have come to the fore in these most difficult times.
The National Assembly Speaker informed the Slovenian guest about the current situation in the country and the most critical spots stating that, right now, it is of paramount importance to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the flooded areas for which the country would need assistance in disinfectants, hygiene and medical supplies.
Gojkovic and Bervar also spoke about intensifying parliamentary, agricultural and cooperation in the sphere of Euro-integration, and the National Assembly Speaker urged Slovenian investors to continue investing into Serbia announcing that the Parliament was about to pass a set of laws which would further improve the investment conditions.
The Slovenian National Council delegation also comprised Council members Tomaz Horvat, Peter Vrisk and Cvetko Zupancic, and on the behalf of the National Assembly, in addition to Speaker Gojkovic, the meeting was attended by Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic.
