National Assembly Speaker Receives Montenegrin Ambassador to Serbia
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Nebojsa Stefanovic, received H.E. Igor Jovovic, Montenegrin Ambassador to Serbia, at his request.
The Montenegrin Ambassador thanked the NARS Speaker for the reception and conveyed the congratulations of the leadership of Montenegro on his being elected, as well as the wish to continue to improve the bilateral relations based on friendly ties, and also reminding of the open invitation for an exchange of visits aimed at boosting parliamentary cooperation. Ambassador Igor Jovovic was interested in the priorities of the institutions of the Republic of Serbia, particularly the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, sharing his opinion that the ruling of The Hague Tribunal “rightfully caused outrage” and reflected negatively on the role of the tribunal and regional reconciliations, which the international community recognised.
Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic agreed that overall bilateral relations should be improved and shared Serbia’s interest in a more intensive realisation of the considerable cooperation potentials, primarily at the interparliamentary level, and including stimulation of economic and cultural cooperation. In that context he repeated the open invitation to the Montenegrin Parliament Speaker to visit Serbia at a time of his own choosing and hinted at a possible formalization of parliamentary cooperation in due time. He opined that the imperative of boosting cooperation based on reciprocity, naturally includes a joint appearance on third markets.
Ambassador Jovovic was optimistic about further improvement of cooperation, expressing apparent readiness for specific steps toward strengthening mutual trust. He also commended Serbia’s well-known position on the Kosovo-Metohija issue as constructive and shared the Montenegrin side’s readiness to take part in activities which might open up new horizons in the search for a solution to the Kosovo-Metohija issue in the interest of the Serbian people.
