National Assembly Speaker Receives Italian Senate’s European Affairs Committee Delegation

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, met today with a delegation of the European Affairs Committee of the Italian Senate.

The delegation paying a one-day visit to Serbia, includes Committee Chair Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata and Tatjana Rojc.

Brnabic expressed particular gratitude to Italy for its continued support for our country’s European integration process. She recalled that Italy had agreed for Serbia to open all chapters within Cluster 3, adding that our country and its citizens greatly appreciate this support.

Committee Chairman Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata, former Italian Foreign Minister, said that Italy will continue to provide support to Serbia and that Belgrade and Rome will continue to cooperate.

The Assembly Speaker informed the Italian guests that the National Assembly is currently in session and that the agenda included Bills, as well as amendments to laws, the adoption of which would greatly contribute to the additional harmonisation of our legislation with that of the European Union. Brnabic clearly emphasised that Serbia is adopting these laws primarily because their potential adoption and implementation will benefit our citizens, not merely to formally meet prescribed standards.

The Parliament Speaker informed the members of the Italian Senate’s European Affairs Committee about the objectives of the newly formed Operational Team for the European Union Accession Process, chaired by the Head of the Serbian Mission to the EU in Brussels, Danijel Apostolovic. This team, of which she is also a member, meets once a week and diligently monitors all the activities and obligations we are implementing, related to the achievement of Serbia's strategic goal - full membership in the European Union.

The meeting was also attended by the Headof the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Italy, Jovan Palalic, as well as the Italian Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia, Luca Gori.
