National Assembly Speaker Receives European Parliament Rapporteur

On Wednesday, 29 August 2012, National Assembly Speaker MA Nebojsa Stefanovic received European Parliament rapporteur Jelko Kacin.

Speaker Stefanovic informed the guest about the current extraordinary session of the National Assembly, as well as the first activities of the legislative executive government in the fight against corruption, investigation of disputed privatisations and application of the zero tolerance principle toward corruption. He asked the European Parliament rapporteur for support for those goals, the achievement of which would speed up Serbia’s European integration.

Mr. Kacin commended the first activities of the Parliament Speaker and Assembly majority, particularly the election of a representative of the opposition to head the Assembly’s European Integration Committee. He informed Speaker Stefanovic on the European Parliament’s upcoming activities within its cooperation with the Serbian Assembly, also announcing a visit by the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs to the Serbian Assembly in October. Mr. Kacin said that the European Parliament supports Serbia as it, according to him, sees it as a driving force toward rather than an obstacle to the region’s accession to the European Union.
