National Assembly Speaker Opens Exhibition Traditional African Murals

National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic opened the exhibition “Traditional African Murals”, by Natasa Njegovanovic Ristic.

She said that today’s exhibition is a continuation of the National Assembly’s cooperation with cultural institutions and enables the public to learn more about the rich African culture.

“I believe this exhibition will encourage us to “peek” into African villages where generations of women, in addition to their daily chores in the house, field and child rearing, expressed their creativity by painting the walls of their homes. These photographs attest to people’s desire to imprint their existence onto everything that surrounds them. By decorating their homes, women showed bountiful talent and sent messages about their identity, their people’s values and their political views”, stressed the Speaker.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco H.E. Abdellah Zegour thanked the National Assembly for allowing the exhibition to take place within its halls.

“Speaker Gojkovic’s gesture is a sign of friendship and compassion that we, as ambassadors of the African continent, always feel”, said the Moroccan Ambassador. He said he cherished Serbia’s visible and recognisable wish to maintain and promote the already good relations with African countries.

The exhibition was organised in cooperation with the Museum of African Art, institution that has been promoting African art for almost 40 years. Museum Director Marija Aleksic addressed the assembly on the behalf of the Museum.
