National Assembly Speaker Meets with Macedonian Prime Minister and Parliament President

National Assembly Speaker Maja Gojkovic, currently in official visit to Macedonia, met today with the President of the Macedonian Assembly Trajko Veljanoski and Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski.

The officials agreed that relations between Serbia and Macedonia are excellent and their further development, especially in the field of economy, is in both countries’ interest.
Gojkovic and Gruevski underlined the two countries’ dedication to Euro-integration, hoping that the European Union would recognise the importance of integration of the Western Balkans and endorse the enlargement policy.
Gojkovic said that European integration is a priority for both countries, stressing that cooperation in the region sends a good signal in the Euro-integration process.
The National Assembly Speaker added that significant progress has been made in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, hoping that the EU would recognise the development and that it would prompt the opening of one of the negotiations chapters.
Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski said that though the two countries’ overall relations are excellent, as is their economic cooperation, there is still room for improvement. Gruevski said that the upcoming joint session of the two countries’ governments, to be held on 16 February, is important for the further development of relations.
Gojkovic had previously also met with the President of the Macedonian Assembly Trajko Veljanoski and urged for an improvement of parliamentary cooperation and cooperation between the parliamentary working bodies, especially as regards the Euro-integration process.
The National Assembly Speaker also met with the members of the Macedonian Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia, and will tomorrow be meeting with the President of Macedonia Gjorge Ivanov.
