National Assembly Speaker Meets with EU-Serbia SAPC MEPs Delegation

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today, before the 15th meeting of the European Union-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC), with the members of the European Parliament delegation in said Committee, headed by co-chair Alessadra Moretti.

Dr Orlic expressed his belief that the delegations of the European Parliament and the National Assembly will talk about the significant progress made by the Republic of Serbia in numerous areas. He opined that the fact the situation in Kosovo-Metohija will be on the agenda of the meeting is very important. "This issue is of particular importance at a time when Albin Kurti is terrorising the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, with the obvious intention of dragging everyone into war. We cannot and will not allow that," said Dr Orlic. The National Assembly Speaker called on everyone in the EU to use their authority to send a clear message that Kurti's behaviour is completely unacceptable and must stop.

Co-chair of the EU-Serbia SAPC Alessandra Moretti stressed that she believes Serbia to be very close to its goal, which is full membership in the EU, because its progress, she pointed out, is objectively visible. Moretti said that, considering the time that has elapsed since Serbia's application for EU membership, it is understandable that there is a certain amount of disappointment among Serbian citizens because of the duration of the process and it is therefore necessary to reach out to every citizen of Serbia and draw attention to the many resources that came to Serbia from Europe, and even more significantly - that Europe is always present as an ally to Serbia, which it already considers a European country.

The meeting was also attended by Franc Bogovic (EPP, Slovenia), Jean-Lin Lacapelle (ID, France) and Andor Deli (NI, Hungary) as members of the European Parliament's delegation to the EU-Serbia SAPC.
