He also stressed the need to reach broad agreement within the parliament on matters of national importance, which besides the issue of Kosovo, also include Serbia’s progress to the European Union. Speaking of the relationship between the two parliaments, Stefanovic mentioned their continuous cooperation and the significance of parliamentary contacts with one of the most important members of the European Union whose parliament would play a vital role in the assessment of Serbia’s progress toward full European Union membership, as well as cultural cooperation. Stefanovic deemed it possible to expand cooperation at the parliamentary level, which would be based on exchange of experiences.
H.E. German Ambassador Heinz Wilhelm spoke chiefly of cooperation at the level of youth education at the German and Serbian parliaments and proposed that the National Assembly Speaker should meet those who have attended the education programme at the German Bundestag. The Ambassador showed special interest in the current political situation in Serbia, with a special focus on the situation in Kosovo. Wilhelm agreed with the National Assembly Speaker’s suggestion to present German culture to the general public visa various promotions and exhibitions.
