National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic Meets with UNOB Director Mari Yamashita

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with UN Secretary-General Representative and Director of the United Nations Office in Belgrade (UNOB) Mari Yamashita.

The National Assembly Speaker stressed that the work of the UN Office is of exceptional importance for Serbia as it is the main channel of communication with the UN Mission in Kosovo-Metohija (UNMIK), whose presence and activities in Kosovo-Metohija is of key importance for the country. He said that the cooperation with UNOB and its leadership has so far been excellent and expressed hope that we would continue to jointly contribute to the effective implementation of the UNMIK mandate. He pointed out that Serbia attaches great importance to UNMIK's activities and once again underlined the importance of continuing the international presence in Kosovo-Metohija, both UNMIK and KFOR.

Emphasising the long-term partnership between Serbia and the UN, Director of the United Nations Office in Belgrade Mari Yamashita said she was ready to contribute to its successful continuation and full realisation of UNMIK’s role.

At the guest’s questions about the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic stressed that Belgrade is genuinely committed to finding a compromise solution and that dialogue is the only way to reach it.
