National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic Meets with Italian Ambassador to Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Serbia Carlo Lo Cascio.

Responding to the Ambassador’s inquiries, National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic outlined the National Assembly’s activities as regards the constitutional changes, making sure to mention that the Venice Commission had given a positive opinion on the text of the constitutional amendments and adding that the next steps are adoption by the National Assembly, followed by a referendum. However, before that can be done, a new Law on Referendum needs to be passed. The National Assembly Speaker also informed the guest that the Code of Conduct had been changed in accordance with GRECO's recommendations and that the Ethics Commission was elected this week.

The officials also discussed the inter-party dialogue, with the National Assembly Speaker informing the Ambassador that he was in constant contact with the representatives of the European Parliament and that the implementation of the agreements made is underway. He also informed the guest that an agreement was signed today with the parties which took part in the dialogue Without Foreign Mediation.

Ambassador Lo Cascio spoke about the recent Progress Report on Serbia, stressing that it registered the reform processes and adding that the same pace should be maintained to ensure the approval of the opening of new clusters at the Intergovernmental Conference in December. He emphasised that Italy strongly supports Serbia’s European integration process and that it can count on the country’s support.
