National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic Meets with Algerian Ambassador to Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic received the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria Fatah Mahraz, today in a courtesy visit.

National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic wished the recently appointed Algerian Ambassador a successful mandate, stressing that the peoples of Serbia and Algerian share a firm friendship dating back to the times of former Yugoslavia and 60 years of diplomatic relations. He highlighted the traditionally good and friendly relations between the two countries, with no outstanding issues, and especially the mutually expressed interest in promoting political and parliamentary dialogue at the high and highest level and the development of economic cooperation.

Algerian Ambassador Fatah Mahraz opined that the relations between the two countries are following an upward trend and should continue to be advanced by strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest. He said that during his mandate he would strive to promote trade and economic ties which he believes have particular potential since the market of Algeria as a developing country is open to new investments.

The Assembly Speaker said that one of the new parliamentary legislature’s first tasks would be to establish friendship groups with other countries, including Algeria, reiterating the open invitation to the Speaker of the National People’s Assembly of Algeria Ibrahim Bugali to come and visit Serbia.
