National Assembly Speaker Dr Vladimir Orlic Meets with Russian Ambassador to Serbia

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko who delivered the congratulations from the Chairperson of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko and the Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin on his election as National Assembly Speaker.


Speaker Orlic said he was very pleased to be meeting with Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko at the very beginning of his mandate and the opportunity to discuss all current topics concerning the overall cooperation between the two countries, especially emphasizing the importance of continuous parliamentary cooperation.

In the course of the meeting, National Assembly Speaker Dr Vladimir Orlic stressed that the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections in Serbia testify to the people’s clear support for the policy pursued by the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic. In accordance with this policy, Serbia follows the European path and nurtures relations with its traditional friends, keeping its vital political and economic interests in top place, stressed National Assembly Speaker Dr Orlic.

National Assembly Speaker Dr Orlic thanked the Russian Federation for its principled position and support in the matter of preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, stating that Serbia, faced with Pristina’s unilateral and dangerous moves which directly endanger the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija, invests large efforts into keeping the peace, stability and security of our people in Kosovo-Metohija.

Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko stressed that the Russian Federation’s position on Kosovo-Metohija would not change. He went on to emphasise that he believed the cooperation between our two countries in the field of energy would continue, as well as in other areas of mutual importance.
