National Assembly Speaker Calls Local Elections in Belgrade, Bor and Arandjelovac

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic signed the Decision calling the elections for councillors of the City of Belgrade and the municipal assemblies of Bor and Arandjelovac, for 4 March 2018.

“I would like to urge the citizens of Belgrade, Bor and Arandjelovac to vote in the elections on 4 March. These elections are important because in them the citizens will be deciding on the future of their towns and municipalities, their daily lives as well as the lives of their friends and families. It is important to turn out for the elections and vote for responsible, serious, conscientious and hard-working people and concrete programmes, plans and ideas”, said the Serbian Assembly Speaker.

Gojkovic said it is important for the voters to bear in mind the candidates’ CVs and programmes and to vote “for” and not “against”, because a vote “against will not lead to better lives or more schools, kindergartens and healthcare clinics.

The National Assembly Speaker advised the candidates to take their election campaigns seriously, to be responsible, serious and conscientious, to show respect for Belgrade and its citizens, as well as the citizens of Bor and Arandjelovac, respect for their political opponents and to compete for votes with their programmes and ideas and not hatred.

“What is most important is for the candidates to respect the will of the people which will be expressed in a democratic process on 4 March”, Gojkovic concluded.

The day the Decision comes into force shall set in motion the deadline for the electoral activities, and the elections for councillors will be conducted by the election bodies for the conduction of elections as stipulated by the Law on Local Elections.
