National Assembly Speaker Attends Brazilian President’s Inaugural Ceremony

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic is in official visit to Brasilia, Federative Republic of Brazil, as the envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic to the inauguration of the President of Brazil, H.E. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Congratulating Brazilian President da Silva, Dr Orlic expressed his belief that during his mandate the two countries would continue to strengthen their decades-long friendship and intensify political dialogue. "We expect even more dynamic and substantive cooperation in all areas of common interest," said the National Assembly Speaker.

He went on to say how pleased he was with the fact that this year marks the 85th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, as well as bilateral cooperation characterised by mutual understanding, appreciation and support on all important issues. He also took the opportunity to convey to President da Silva his gratitude for Brazil’s principled support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and for the country’s support of Serbia's positions in international organisations.

National Assembly Speaker Dr Orlic conveyed the sincere congratulations of the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic to President da Silva, as well as his wishes for the success and well-being of the Federative Republic of Brazil, at the same time thanking him for the invitation to the inaugural ceremony, which, according to the number of foreign officials attending, was rated as the largest so far in the history of Brazil.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, Dr Orlic held a series of meetings with high-ranking dignitaries who attended the inauguration ceremony, with whom he discussed overall bilateral relations, as well as opportunities for the additional strengthening of interparliamentary and economic cooperation.
