National Assembly Speaker’s Cabinet – Press Release
The sessions of the National Assembly are conducted according to the Rules of Procedure and the National Assembly Speaker makes sure the Rules of Procedure are followed consistently which has so far been confirmed by the decisions of the National Assembly.
We would like to remind you that a parliamentary question can be addressed to a minister or the Government in writing, no matter whether there is an ongoing session or not, and the MPs have the right to pose questions to all public officials on live TV. At the same time, we would like to remind you that the Parliament Speaker had allowed MP Trnavcevic to address the National Assembly much more often than any of the other independent MPs.
Unfortunately, some MPs consider TV appearances more important than what is essential, the agenda of the plenary and active participation in the Parliament’s work.
MP Zaharije Trnavcevic had attended only 33 of the 137 days the Assembly was in session. It is interesting that his attendance at the sittings averaged two hours at the most, and at one sitting he was in attendance for merely one minute and 39 seconds. The abovementioned data can be made available at any time by the National Assembly Service and has been recorded from the beginning of the current parliamentary legislature.
Trnavcevic undoubtedly often has, like he said himself, more important business to attend to than the National Assembly sittings, but that does not prevent him from collecting a full salary in addition to his pension and use the National Assembly sessions for self-promotion. We would like to inform Zaharije Trnavcevic that he can initiate proceedings for the dismissal of the National Assembly Speaker as stipulated by the Rules of Procedure and the Law on the National Assembly, and if he needs an interpretation of these provisions, the Speaker’s Cabinet is at his disposal.
