The National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia received an endowment from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Belgrade, comprised of around 100 books by Chinese authors in various languages and 11 laptop computers intended for National Assembly use.
The donation was received, on behalf of the National Assembly, by the Parliament Deputy Speaker and Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the People's Republic of China, Marina Ragus, who thanked the Chinese Embassy for the literary donation which will be of exceptional importance both for the MPs and for the researchers with whom the National Assembly successfully cooperates. The donation includes works by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as works by prominent Chinese and domestic authors that tell the story of over five thousand years of the Chinese civilization.
"To understand modern China, one need to look into its history and philosophy. Anyone who tries to understand what the four global initiatives on which the community with a shared future is based are, what peace, respect for every state and the United Nations Charter mean for China, must go back to the history of its philosophy, because the answers to these questions were given five thousand years ago," said Ragus.
She pointed out that in this time of great geopolitical changes, we stand witness to a new architecture of the international community and world order. "For one part of the world, the key word is war, while for China and Serbia, the key words are peace and development, which is in line with the principles on which the United Nations Charter is based," Ragus emphasised.
The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Serbia, Li Ming, expressed gratitude for the words of welcome and emphasised the importance of the cooperation between the National Assembly and the Embassy of China.
"The Parliament is the highest state body in both Serbia and China, which is why it is a great honour and privilege for me to attend today's ceremony," said the Ambassador. He added that the Embassy has, throughout the year, been carefully collecting books in the Serbian language, which were donated to the National Assembly library today.
He recalled that Serbia and China, under the leadership of presidents Aleksandar Vucic and Xi Jinping, have made significant progress in terms of mutual cooperation.
"I believe that these books will make a modest but valuable contribution to the rich library of the National Assembly," the Ambassador stressed.
The donation ceremony was also attended by the Secretary General of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Srdjan Smiljanic.
