National Assembly Deputy Speaker Marina Ragus Meets with Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia
National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Marina Ragus, met today with Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia, Oleksandr Lytvynenko.
The officials exchanged opinions on the current geopolitical situation and the improvement of parliamentary cooperation between of Serbia and Ukraine. Ambassador Lytvynenko thanked Deputy Speaker Ragus for the humanitarian aid Serbia sent to his country, as well as for its neutral position. He emphasised the importance of intensifying parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, especially at the level of working bodies, and primarily the committees responsible for foreign policy and European integration. Ambassador Lytvynenko also reiterated his country's position as regards respecting Serbia’s territorial integrity.
Deputy Speaker Ragus thanked Ukraine for its principled position on the issue of Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that for Serbia, respecting international law and the territorial integrity of sovereign states is a matter of principle. Regarding parliamentary cooperation, Ragus agreed with the aspiration to intensify cooperation at the level of parliamentary committees and pointed to the potential offered by cooperation at the level of parliamentary friendship groups.
The officials agreed that the fact that this year marks the 34th anniversary of bilateral relations between Serbia and Ukraine presents an excellent opportunity to raise the countries’ cooperation to a higher level.
