NATO PA Delegation Members Warn of Accelerated Militarization Process in Kosovo-Metohija

During the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Spring Session in Vilnius, the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, held a meeting with the Head of the Latvian delegation, Raimonds Bergmanis.

They emphasised that the opening of the Serbian Embassy in Riga is a new stage and a fundamentally important incentive in the development of bilateral relations, as well as cooperation with the Baltic States. The officials pointed out that Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija are exposed to almost daily political and institutional pressure from Pristina. They thanked Latvia for once again making the decision to participate in KFOR. Especially considering Latvia's role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, it was emphasised that KFOR must remain the only legitimate and credible security presence on the ground, fully in accordance with its mandate entrusted by UN Security Council Resolution 1244. The Latvian MPs emphasised their support for Serbia’s European integration process and their readiness to improve interparliamentary cooperation in the coming period.

At the meeting of the on NATO PA Economics and Security Committee, the Head of the standing delegation, Prof. Dr Zoran Dragisic, underlined the importance of critical raw materials for national security. At the meeting of the NATO PA Committee on Democracy and Security, delegation member Natasa Jovanovic stressed that the EU and NATO, despite the internal challenges they face, must pay attention to activities that directly affect the stability of the Western Balkans. The Republic of Serbia remains committed to the policy of peace and military neutrality, and the recent conduct of the first Serbia-NATO military exercise marked 20 years of successful partnership relations with NATO. She warned of the accelerated process of militarization that Pristina is implementing in Kosovo-Metohija, which is changing the security balance, increasing uncertainty, as well as the risk of escalation. She warned of the very difficult position of the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, who are exposed to attacks by the Kurti regime on a daily basis.

The Head of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the NATO PA, Prof. Dr Zoran Dragisic, and delegation members Natasa Jovanovic, Aleksandar Markovic, Ivan Karic and Stefan Janjic are participating in the Spring Session of the NATO PA.
