The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic talked today with Elmar Mammadyarov, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, in official visit to Serbia.

Both sides noted that the relations between the two countries are excellent, particularly in the political sphere. Minister Mammadyarov stressed that economic relations should be improved as soon as possible and that Azerbaijan was, among other things, ready to invest into Serbian economy.

The NARS Speaker thanked the Government and people of Azerbaijan for their support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. She agreed that economic cooperation should be raised to a new level. Parliamentary cooperation could be of great help to this end, particularly on the level of friendship groups and competent committees.

Foreign Minister Mammadyarov stressed that Azerbaijan was expending considerable effort to resolve the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh as soon as possible, so that it could preserve its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The officials declared high-level meetings very useful, evidenced by President Tadic’s visit to Azerbaijan. The upcoming visit of the Azerbaijani President to Serbia will undoubtedly give new impulse to the further improvement of bilateral cooperation.
