Morocco Does Not Change Stance on Serbia’s Sovereignty and Integrity, Relations Improving

Stefana Miladinovic, Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Morocco, met today at the National Assembly House with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Serbia H.E. Mohammed Amine Belhaj to discuss the interparliamentary cooperation in the previous period and how intensify it.

The Moroccan Ambassador highlighted the excellent overall bilateral relations between the two states in the previous year hoping that they would continue to intensify in the coming period. 2018 was exceptionally productive for both sides, as evidenced by the reciprocal visits of high dignitaries and the signing of trade, culture and air transport agreements.

The Ambassador said that in March of this year the two sides had started to negotiate on a free trade agreement, which would be the first of its kind between Serbia and an African state.

H.E. Mohammed Amine Belhaj reaffirmed his country’s stance on Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that Morocco would support Serbia in all international and parliamentary forums.

Stefana Miladinovic said that the two states enjoy a friendly relationship on a constant rise and that there are no outstanding political issues between them.

She agreed with the Ambassador that the recent cooperation had been very successful and should be intensified in the coming period, especially in the area of defence and security.

She thanked the Ambassador for the Kingdom of Morocco’s principled stance on the unilaterally declared independence Kosovo-Metohija and in the so-called Kosovo’s bid to join the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie and other international organizations.

Ambassador Mohammed Amine Belhaj invited a delegation of the Serbian Parliament, comprised of representatives of the PFG with Morocco and the Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman, to visit Morocco.

The officials agreed that reciprocal parliamentary visits, exchange of views and experiences, could contribute to the development of parliamentary cooperation in general. They concluded that the two sides will continue to cooperate in international organizations in line with their interests and always give precedence to a peaceful resolution of any outstanding issue or conflict.
