Members of PFG with Egypt Meet with Egyptian Ambassador to Serbia

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Egypt Zagorka Aleksic, and PFG members MA Svetlana Milijic, Zdravko Mladenovic, Edin Numanovic and Vesna Nedovic, met today, at the National Assembly House with the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Serbia Bassel Salah.

“Egypt is one of Serbia’s key partners in great many areas of bilateral cooperation” said Zagorka Aleksic, adding that this is a traditionally friendly country with whom Serbia has been enjoying diplomatic relations for 117 years. She pointed out that the presidents of the two countries, Aleksandar Vucic and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, have raised these relations to a new level, and it is up to the Parliamentary Friendship Group to build on this foundation and keep expanding the relationship.

Ambassador Bassel Salah drew attention to the important role the late MP and former head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Egypt Dragan Markovic Palma played in the promotion of bilateral relations between our two countries, expressing his belief that the PFG now headed by Zagorka Aleksic would continue in the same vein.

The officials agreed that the adoption of the Bill on the Confirmation of the Free Trade Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, currently on the agenda of the ongoing National Assembly session, would open a new era in our trade relations, opining that the trade would be greatly improved. They agreed that this would be a boost to the advancement of relations in many other areas, such as culture and information technologies.

The officials also discussed tourism as Egypt ranks third on the list of destination favoured by Serbian tourists, opining that there is room to bring Serbia closer to Egyptian tourists.
