MP Marija Obradovic Presents Women’s Parliamentary Network at Council of Europe PA

Marija Obradovic, member of the Serbian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, presented the activities of the National Assembly’s Women’s Parliamentary Network to the members of the Sub-committee on Gender Equality operating within the Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination.

On the occasion the Council of Europe MPs were briefed on the cooperation model employed by the Serbian women parliamentarians regardless of their political affiliation, which might serve as an example for the other European countries where women parliamentarians either cannot present a united front of do so with great difficulty. The presentation included the structure of the Women’s Parliamentary Network, its mode of operation, priorities and results achieved since its establishment on 14 February 2013.
“We consider it important to show by example that it is possible for women parliamentarians to cooperate outside of the party framework and through solidarity achieve results of common interest such as prevent domestic violence, encourage economic empowerment of women and promote women’s health. The presentation was followed by a lively debate and I am sure we drew the attention of the women parliamentarians from the other European countries”, stressed Marija Obradovic.
