MP Ana Ivanovic Takes Part in IAO International Secretariat Meeting in Amman

Member of the standing delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, Ana Ivanovic, took part in the meeting of the IAO Secretariat held on 17 November 2025 in Amman, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

With the participation of 13 parliamentary delegations as well as guests from other countries, and with a welcoming address by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jordan, Mazen El Qadi, the meeting sent a clear message about the importance of promoting dialogue between religions and cultures, and emphasised that mutual understanding is the fundamental pillar of peace and stability, which is perhaps best reflected in the example of Jordan, a country of coexistence and cooperation.

In his address, the Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy, Maximos Charakopoulos, reviewed the organisation's previously implemented activities and announced the activities planned for the coming period. Recalling the importance and preciousness of peace in the current international circumstances, he assessed that peace in the Middle East would be a catalyst for maintaining cooperation among religions. In this regard, he emphasized that the Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy makes available all its capacities for parliamentary diplomacy as the only tool in overcoming geopolitical challenges and promoting coexistence and cooperation among peoples and religions.

The programme was complemented by visits to historical and religious sites in Jordan in the presence of religious dignitaries, as well as the promotion of the book "Hagia Sophia. The Churches of the Wisdom of God Around the World" in Arabic. The meeting of parliamentary delegations and representatives of the IAO International Secretariat with His Royal Highness Prince Hassan bin Talal at Bisman Palace was also of great importance. Stressing that security in the modern world must be based on the dignity of people, Prince Hassan bin Talal emphasised that identity, territory and migration are the duties of civilisation and encouraged the participants of the meeting to promote dialogue and understanding.
