Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government Committee Public Hearing Held in Kragujevac

Kragujevac hosted the First Public Hearing of the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government on the topic “Presentation of the Bill amending and modifying the Law on the Constitutional Court; Bill amending and modifying the Law on the Election of MPs; Bill amending and modifying the Law on Local Elections and the Bill amending and modifying the Law on the Election of the President of the Republic, submitted by MP Miroslav Petrasinovic”.

Committee Chairman Dr Ugljesa Mrdic said that the Committee had decided to organise four public hearings on the topic “so as to contribute to the transparency and inclusivity of the process of improving the electoral legislation”.

The bills were presented by the submitter, MP Miroslav Petrasinovic who stressed that they had been aligned with the ODIHR recommendations the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission had made after the parliamentary elections of 2023.

The public hearing was attended by the members and deputy members of the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government, MPs, representatives of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Republic Electoral Commission, City of Kragujevac City Administration, Kragujevac Faculty of Law, as well as representatives of international organisations and civil society organisations.

The participants of the public hearing exchanged opinions and shared views and suggestions concerning specific parts of the proposed bills.

Dr Ugljesa Mrdic declared the discussion constructive and substantial and expressed the opinion that the bills will soon be put onto the agenda of a National Assembly session, adding that the views and opinions shared at this public hearing would prove useful.

The First Public Hearing will be followed by public hearings in Nis on 5 May, Novi Sad on 6 May and Belgrade on 7 May.
