Head of PFG with Russia Meets with Russian Federal Assembly Federation Council Delegation

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Russian Federation, Igor Braunovic, and PFG members, met today in the National Assembly with a delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, headed by Yelena Afanasyeva Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs.

In a comprehensive and cordial conversation, the officials discussed current issues of importance for the further development of bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation. They emphasised that the traditionally friendly and close relations between Serbia and the Russian Federation represent a lasting value that persists regardless of current international circumstances.

Braunovic said that the PFG with Russia is one of the largest in the National Assembly, boasting 103 members, which is a testament to the importance that MPs attach to the development of interparliamentary relations with their colleagues from the Russian Federation. Braunovic also took the opportunity to once again thank the Russian Federation for the strong support it provides to Serbia internationally, especially regarding the issue of Kosovo-Metohija and the preservation of Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Yelena Afanasyeva drew attention to the importance of friendly relations between Serbia and Russia, stressing that the Russian Federation will not change its position on the issue of Kosovo-Metohija. She also underlined the need for furthering the economic cooperation between Serbia and Russia.

Afanasyeva thanked the Republic of Serbia for its consistent decision not to impose sanctions on the Russian Federation, stressing that this stance is a confirmation of Serbia's independent and principled policy. She particularly emphasised the importance of the traditionally good and friendly relations between the Serbian and Russian people, as well as the fact that the Russian people in Serbia enjoy sincere support, understanding and respect.

The meeting was also attended by the PFG members Zagorka Aleksic, Ivana Stamatovic and Ugljesa Mrdic, who, in their conversation with the Russian Federation Council delegation, emphasised the traditional friendly relations and the importance of continued cooperation between parliamentarians, confirming that they will respond to invitations and return visits in the coming period.
