Gojkovic and Slovak Parliament Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic met today with the Speaker of the Slovak National Council Andrej Danko and thanked him for attending the reception in honour of Aleksandar Vucic assuming the office of President of Serbia, which only goes to prove the two countries' friendly relations.

The officials agreed that Serbia and Slovakia share a traditionally good relationship, which is to a great extent aided by the Slovak national minority in Serbia and the Serbian national minority in Slovakia.

The National Assembly Speaker thanked the Slovak Republic for its steadfast support of Serbia's European integration, especially since EU accession remains the country's chief foreign policy priority and Serbia intends to continue its internal reform. In that context, Gojkovic highlighted the recent opening of negotiation chapters 7 and 29 - intellectual property law and customs union, emphasizing the importance of continuity in the process.

Gojkovic said that Serbia greatly appreciates Slovakia's principled stance on Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, drawing attention to the Serbian side's dedication to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue and application of the agreements achieved. The Slovak Parliament Speaker confirmed that his country would not change its stance on Kosovo-Metohija and would continue to support the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. Danko also stressed that the Slovak Republic would continue to strongly endorse Serbia's European path.

The National Assembly Speaker emphasized the importance of a continued development of cooperation between the two parliaments and their members as representatives of the citizens, to which end she invited Danko to pay an official visit to Serbia.
