Gojkovic stressed that Serbia is committed to improving relations with traditional friends such as Algeria and that both countries are interested in intensifying cooperation. Gojkovic thanked Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Algeria’s principled and consistent support of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Bouteflika said that Algeria as a country respects Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and has not and will not recognise the independence of Kosovo-Metohija. The Algerian President reminded of the long tradition of good bilateral relations between the two countries and stressed that it is in both Serbia and Algeria’s interest to further develop their cooperation.

Bouteflika pointed out that economic cooperation should be improved, that Serbian companies have an excellent reputation in Algeria won during the time their cooperation was closer, which is a good basis for their return, which Algeria is expecting because of the need to cooperate with Serbia on the political, economic and cultural level.

Bouteflika stressed that the National Assembly Speaker’s visit to Algeria has “opened the door” to an improvement of the relations between the two countries.

Gojkovic also met with Foreign Minister Ramtan Lamamra who said that Serbia and Algeria should build a common future on the decades-long history of good relations, while with Minister of Relations with the Parliament Tahar Khaoua she discussed coordination and cooperation in the relations between the government and parliament.

Gojkovic had also met with the Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa, President of the Algerian National Council Abdelkader Bensalah and Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.
