Gojkovic Meets with Montenegrin Parliament Speaker

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic, currently in Budva to attend the 16th Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, met today with Montenegrin Parliament Speaker Ivan Brajovic.

Gojkovic and Brajovic spoke about advancing parliamentary relations and cooperation in the sphere of Euro-integration, as well as in the region and in a variety of fields such as economy, tourism and culture.

They went on to highlight the importance of furthering parliamentary cooperation across the board – between the working bodies and in international parliamentary organizations such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Gojkovic and Brajovic expressed readiness to cooperate in the Euro-integration processes and discussed the EU talks in light of the current challenges rocking the Union.

Gojkovic expressed concern about Pristina’s recent moves which have radicalized its relations with Belgrade as evidenced by the adoption of the Platform for dialogue and the decision to establish the so-called “Kosovo Army”. Gojkovic also reminded Brajovic of the violation of CEFTA and imposition of a 100% customs tax on goods from central Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that Belgrade is ready to talk, but Pristina needs to revoke the customs tax.

Gojkovic accepted the Montenegrin Parliament Speaker’s invitation to pay an official visit to Montenegro. Gojkovic said that as Belgrade will be hosting the 141st IPU Assembly in October, she expects a Montenegrin delegation to take part in the summit.

Gojkovic and Brajovic emphasized the importance of furthering economic cooperation and also discussed the current situation in the region.
