In the meeting, the officials affirmed the traditional friendship between the Serbian and Greek people, expressing a mutual wish for a more successful and intensive future cooperation between the European Integration Committee and Committee on European Affairs and the Serbian and Greek parliaments.
The Greek parliamentarians stressed that Greece supports Serbia’s advance toward the European Union and that they expect it to soon be given a date for the start of negotiations for EU membership. Serbia’s progress to the European Union is beneficial for the other nations and countries in the region because the Balkan people can become Europe’s new power, said the Vice-Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament, Kyriakos Gerontopoulos.
The officials agreed that the European Integration Committee and Committee on European Affairs should endorse the Twinning project realised jointly by the Hellenic Parliament and the National Assembly in order to boost the efficiency, accountability and transparency of the National Assembly and strengthen its representative role, as well as its legislative and supervisory function.
