European Integration Committee Meets with German Ambassador to Serbia

The Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs and Committee members Dr Ana Jakovljevic, Dubravka Filipovski and Robert Kozma met today at the National Assembly with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Serbia Anke Konrad and talked about Serbia's European integration prospects and the assessment of the President of Serbia that by the end of 2026 Serbia will have taken all the necessary steps to implement reforms for accession to the European Union.

Elvira Kovacs said that the National Assembly controls the Government’s work on European integration, as it is the Government that conducts the negotiations for EU membership. The Committee members agreed that a good practice of regular and open communication has been established between the European Integration Committee and the Ministry for European Integration.

Ambassador Anke Konrad assessed that it is encouraging that Serbia has set a concrete goal to be ready for EU accession by the end of 2026 and that it is creating a "Roadmap" for the implementation of the necessary reforms. She was interested in the work priorities and the role of the European Integration Committee and the National Assembly in this process, in terms of harmonising domestic legislation with the European.

In the course of the meeting, the officials exchanged opinions on the importance of opening Negotiation Cluster 3, especially as no new negotiation clusters have been opened in Serbia in the past three years.

They also discussed the importance of implementing reforms in the areas of the rule of law, media freedom and combating corruption, as well as the current political topics in Serbia, such as the student protests and lithium mining.
