European Integration Committee Chairperson and Members Meet with Czech Parliament’s Chamber of Deputies Speaker

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs, met today, at the National Assembly, with the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Tomio Okamura, currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia with a delegation. The meeting was also attended by Committee Deputy Chairman Milan Radin and Committee member Zivota Starcevic.

Elvira Kovacs thanked the Czech Republic for its steady support of Serbia’s European path, mentioning that at its last session the National Assembly passed a number of important bills from the European agenda. She reminded the guest that it is Serbia’s objective to fulfil all of its duties regarding the accession process by the end of the year and stressing that it sees the Czech Republic as an important ally within the European Union, one that will recognise its efforts and endorse the opening of new negotiation clusters.

Tomio Okamura affirmed that Serbia has a reliable partner in the Czech Republic, adding that the two countries pursue a pragmatic policy.

The officials exchanged opinions on the current geopolitical circumstances if Europe and the possibilities to further parliamentary cooperation.

They agreed that it would be good to intensify contacts between the European Integration Committee and the Czech Committee on EU Affairs as well as continue the cooperation within COSAC (Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union), which Serbia takes part in as a candidate country.
