Today, at the National Assembly House, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Dragoljub Micunovic talked to European Parliament members Victor Bostinaru and Adrian Severin about the future cooperation between the National Assembly and European Parliament.

The officials noted that there is room to further improve the cooperation between the European Parliament and National Assembly. Micunovic declared the existing degree of cooperation between the EP and NA insufficient in view of Serbia’s wishes and speed with which it should approach Euro-integration. He pointed out the need to institutionalize the cooperation and regulate the communication between the Serbian and European Parliaments more precisely. Intensified cooperation with the European Parliament could contribute to Serbia’s speedier accession to the European Union which is why the deputies should establish stronger relations with the members of the European Parliament, said Dragoljub Micunovic.

The members of the European Parliament also urged to institutionalise the relations between the EP and NAS and stressed the need to ensure a more direct exchange of information with the National Assembly, create conditions enabling the National Assembly to consider the reports on Serbia adopted at the European Parliament and establish closer contacts between the parliamentarians.

Since last year an informal parliamentary group Friends of Serbia was established at the European Parliament, the officials emphasised the need to intensify cooperation with its members adding that the members of two assembly committees – on foreign affairs and European integrations, should play the most important role in it.
