Dr Vladimir Orlic and Islamic Culture and Communication Organization Director

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with a delegation of the Islamic Culture and Communication Organization, headed by the Director General and President of the Supreme Council for Interfaith Dialogue of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mehdi Imanipour.


Dr Orlic declared Mehdi Imanipour's visit to Belgrade vital for discussions on the further strengthening of bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, evidenced in the open and constructive dialogue at all levels, as well as intensive cooperation in numerous areas.

In the course of the meeting, also attended by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Usame Zukorlic and the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Islamic Republic of Iran Jasmina Karanac, the officials discussed the possibilities for improving cooperation in the field of culture, something closer ties between the two parliaments’ committees and parliamentary friendship groups and could significantly contribute to. Dr Orlic praised the activities aimed at reciprocal tourism, sports, historical and religious promotion, and shared ideas how to further cultural cooperation, expressing his satisfaction with the recent opening of the "Serbian Corner" in the National Library and Archives of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia used the opportunity to thank the Islamic Republic of Iran for respecting our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and standing up for the principles of international law. "Everyone in Serbia greatly appreciates this position of friendly Iran," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, informing the guest in detail about the extremely difficult situation for the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, the constant threats and pressures they are exposed to by the regime in Pristina and the latest wave of terror coming in the form of violent usurpation of the municipalities in the north, where the majority population is Serbian.

Mehdi Imanipour said that the two countries share a friendship and the same views on important issues, confirming that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to provide support to Serbia in international organizations, without changing its position on to the independence of so-called "Kosovo". He also conveyed the greetings of the Speaker of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, as well as an invitation to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran.
