Dr Vladimir Orlic Meets with Wendy Morton

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with UK Member of the Parliament and former Minister for Europe and Americas at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Wendy Morton, with whom he discussed bilateral relations and interparliamentary cooperation.

Dr Orlic spoke of the nascent interest in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia for further cooperation with the UK Parliament, the active PFG with the UK and the cooperation with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy. "Serbia is also interested in the further strengthening of economic cooperation, where we have been achieving record results in recent years," said Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. "Serbia is firmly committed to its policy of peace and stability," said Dr Orlic. He added that the state policy, led by the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, has the firm and convincing support of the people, as demonstrated in the elections, and that same state policy, in accordance with the will of the people, is also pursued by the National Assembly and the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

Member of Parliament Morton welcomed the cooperation between the UK Parliament and the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, stressing the importance of furthering these connections, with the aim of strengthening the representative role of parliaments and bringing legislative institutions closer to citizens, primarily young people. She also expressed satisfaction with the regular activities the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia organises to promote the aforementioned goal.
