Dr Vladimir Orlic Meets with Annita Demetriou in Prague: Serbia Can Count on Cyprus

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today, on the sidelines of the EU Conference of Speakers in Prague, with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus Annita Demetriou.

In the course of the meeting, the officials stressed that the brotherly bilateral relations between the two countries, based on trust and mutual support in the vital national interests of preserving sovereignty and territorial integrity, represent a solid foundation for further strengthening of cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. They also affirmed the mutual willingness to further the ties between the two parliaments at all levels.

The National Assembly Speaker thanked Annita Demetriou for the principled position of the Republic of Cyprus as regards the non-recognition of so-called "Kosovo". He informed her in detail about the difficult situation in Kosovo, Pristina’s dangerous and unilateral moves. He reminded that "elections" were held in Kosovo-Metohija yesterday, in gun-surrounded containers, completely without the participation of Serbs. "For more than ten years, we have been waiting for the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, with essential authorities, as signed. This is an obligation for the EU as well," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives said that the position of Cyprus on the issue of Kosovo is firm and will not change. "Our two countries consistently respect international law and, given the difficult challenges facing the world, we must remain united in insisting that the same principles apply to everyone," said Demetriou, confirming Cyprus' support for Serbia's European path, its positions in international organisations and all issues of importance for our country. "Do not forget that you have good friends who you can count on and who will stand firmly by Serbia - always and everywhere," said Demetriou, which Dr Orlic thanked her for.
