Dr Orlic: Iraq and Serbia on the Side of International Law

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with the Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in the Republic of Serbia Mayadah Abdullah Yassen Al-Adhammi, who presented him with card of the Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi congratulating Statehood Day.

The officials expressed satisfaction with the partnership and friendly bilateral relations between the two countries, with this year marking 56 years since their establishment, in connection with which they expressed commitment to advance them through and even more intensive political dialogue and strengthening interparliamentary cooperation through cooperation in all areas of mutual interest for the Republic of Iraq and the Republic of Serbia, primarily the economy.

The Charge d’Affaires affirmed Iraq’s support of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity i.e. non-recognition of the independence of so-called “Kosovo”, which Orlic thanked her for, stressing that the Republic of Serbia continues to consistently respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Iraq, which goes to confirm the two countries’ adherence to the fundamental principles of international law. He added that, as result of the state policy headed by President Aleksandar Vucic and pursued at all levels, the same stance on Kosovo-Metohija is today shared by most UN member states. He went on to say that Belgrade remains committed to the continuation of dialogue with Pristina, demanding the immediate establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities and protection of the safety of the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija. “By protecting our country’s positions, we protect peace and stability and continue the development of pour country”, concluded the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
