National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus met today with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Fariz Rzayev, to discuss improving parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan.
Ragus and Rzayev agreed that overall bilateral relations between the two countries are excellent, and that parliamentary cooperation has intensified in the past period. These good relations are the fruit of the friendship of the two peoples that share the same values, as well as the good relations between the presidents of the two countries.
Deputy Speaker Ragus thanked the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan for respecting the territorial integrity of our country and international law, which is the foundation of our friendship. She added that while bilateral relations are good, there is great potential for further improvement in the current times of great geopolitical challenges, especially in areas such as information technologies, artificial intelligence, as well as energy and various energy sources.
Deputy Minister Rzayev assessed the overall relations between Serbia and his country as partnership, dedicated to respecting international law and focused on development in the areas of economy, energy, defence, tourism, and others. He assessed that the mutual dialogue is at a high level, and that the introduction of a direct flight between Baku and Belgrade also contributes to the further improvement of friendly relations. Rzayev added that we can be proud of our mutual relations, but that the potential that can be used is even greater.
Ragus said that Serbia and Azerbaijan can work together and act together towards third parties with a message of peace and stability. She thanked her guest for his country's participation in the specialised exhibition EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and expressed the expectation that parliamentary cooperation will be raised to the level of cooperation between relevant committees.
