Special Envoy Klein was appointed to his post on 1 September this year and has so far in his career had the opportunity to get to know the region and closely follow the developments in it. He stressed that Hungary strongly supports Serbia's European integration process and that he wants, after the change of government in Hungary, to clearly convey the Ministry's message that this position will not change. He said that there must be an open discussion about the fact that Serbia's European integration is not progressing at the pace it should.

The officials then discussed the support of Serbia's European path by countries such as France, Spain, Greece, Italy and Hungary, whose diplomats offer selfless support on the European path and for whom Serbia is extremely important.

Speaking about the doubts of the Baltic countries, Deputy Speaker Kovacs emphasised the importance of the Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of EU Candidate Countries, which was held in Belgrade, as well as the visit of Ukrainian President Zelensky to Belgrade, for Serbia's European path. She particularly emphasized that Serbia is aligned with the EU in terms of values.

Kovac and Klein also discussed the current political situation in Serbia in light of the upcoming early parliamentary elections, and Kovac expressed hope that Serbia's European path will continue after the elections at an accelerated or at least better pace.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the difficulties that the introduction of the EES system has caused for domestic road transport companies, as well as potential modalities for overcoming this problem at the borders. Kovacs stressed that it is most important for Serbian citizens to see some concrete benefits, regardless of the complicated procedure, and added that in the future, Serbia will further emphasise the topic of joining Schengen even without full EU membership, because this is what our citizens need.
