National Assembly Deputy Speaker Nevena Djuric is taking part in the 20th Conference of Presidents/Speakers of Parliaments of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, held in Skopje.
At the two-day Conference, representatives of the member states of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative are discussing improving peace and security, the role of parliamentary diplomacy in crisis response in the context of geopolitical changes, and strengthening regional connectivity through infrastructure projects with a special focus on Corridor 8 and Corridor 10.
In her address, Deputy Speaker Djuric emphasised that parliamentarians need to be more engaged in reaffirming international law and to establish respect for the international legal order, which must be a guarantee of peace, stability and security through dialogue, cooperation and responsible politics. In the context of strengthening regional connectivity and cooperation, Deputy Speaker Djuric stressed that infrastructure projects, projects that go beyond national borders, open up opportunities for the development of industry, tourism, the creation of new jobs and new investments. She expressed hope that the countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region will show strong political will to, together and in the interests of their citizens, create a region that will not be a periphery.
