Dacic Meets with Palmer

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today with US Deputy Assistant Secretary and Special Representative for the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer.

National Assembly Speaker Ivica Dacic said that the relations between the US and Serbia have significantly improved in previous years, adding that the two countries should continue to work on their further development. “As the National Assembly Speaker I will try to strengthen ties with the Senate and US Congress”, said Ivica Dacic, underlining the importance of intensifying political dialogue and organising high-level visits.

Responding to Matthew Palmer’s inquiries, the officials discussed the National Assembly’s priorities, with Dacic pointing out the strong determination to work on strengthening the National Assembly’s role and improving its operation during his mandate. He informed his guest about the ongoing constitutional reform process, as well as the activities within the second phase of the inter-party dialogue and his meetings with the representatives of the European Parliament.

They also discussed the meetings Matthew Palmer had during his stay in Pristina, underlining that the United States fully supports the EU Special Representative for Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak and his activities. Palmer stressed that the United States wants to find a compromise solution and does not intend to put pressure on the parties in the dialogue.
