DUSAN BAJATOVIC TALKS TO GERMAN PARLIAMENTARIANS
Deputy Chairman of the European Integrations Committee of the National Assembly, Dusan Bajatovic, talked today at the National Assembly House to the members of the German Bundestag, Jürgen Trittin and Marieluise Beck.
Deputy Chairman of the European Integrations Committee of the National Assembly, Dusan Bajatovic, talked today at the National Assembly House to the members of the German Bundestag, Jürgen Trittin and Marieluise Beck.
The issues of the current political situation in Serbia and European integrations processes were the focus of the conversation. Bajatovic stressed the importance of Germany for Serbia adding that it can help Serbia considerably on its way to Europe. Serbia’s European course is not brought into question and over 70% of citizens are in favour of its integration into the EU. However, Serbia today is being sent too few positive signals and therefore, according to him, the European Union should have a higher degree of understanding for what is happening in Serbia.
It is impossible to fulfil the conditions set by the EU if the country faces problems, above all, concerning the solution of the status of Kosovo and cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. At this moment the Serbian political elite should be helped to overcome the obstacles on Serbia’s way to Europe, Bajatovic said.
The German parliamentarians stated that initialling the Association Agreement is a very important step for Serbia. Germany supports Serbia’s way to Europe, but, as they reiterated, the prespective of widening the EU can only be achieved by adherence to the criteria.
On the behalf of the German Bundestag, member of parliament Tritin invited the members of the European Integrations Committee to visit Germany.
