Brnabic: Strategic Dialogue with US One of Serbia's Most Important Achievements in Decades
Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Wednesday Serbia was very appreciative of a strategic relationship with the US, and added that, for Belgrade, launching strategic dialogue with Washington was one of the most achievements in decades.
Speaking at an international conference titled Partners in a changing world: Central & Eastern Europe, America, Israel and the new Middle East, Brnabic also said Serbia deeply appreciated the friendship and partnership with Israel and that the relations between the two countries rested upon their sincere readiness to understand each other in difficult times.
"Serbia deeply appreciates its friendship and partnership with Israel. Also, we highly appreciate our strategic relationship with the US. I am glad we are meeting just a few days before the start of strategic dialogue between the US and Serbia, which means much to us and is one of our most significant achievements in the past several decades,” she said at the conference, hosted in the Serbian parliament building by the Serbian-American Friendship Congress.
She said that the conference is taking place at a time when the "international landscape" is changing much faster than could have been imagined just a few years ago, adding that new geopolitical realities are emerging, and that uncertainty has become a key feature of international relations.
"In such times, countries naturally look for reliable partners, but reliable partnerships do not appear overnight, they are not created only when circumstances require it, but are patiently built over years, decades, through dialogue, consistency, mutual respect and trust that even in difficult moments, partners will continue to engage sincerely and constructively with each other," said Brnabic.
She added that the value of today's conference lies not only in the important issues it is trying to highlight, but also in its ability to bring together people who believe that dialogue remains the strongest foundation for lasting cooperation.
"I cannot imagine a more appropriate place for such a discussion than the parliament. Throughout history, parliaments have been places where societies face difficult issues through debate, not confrontation, through dialogue, not division," Brnabic said.
