Belgrade Hosts Conference of Speakers of Parliament of EU Candidate Countries
On 7 and 8 July, Belgrade will host the Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of EU Candidate Countries, which will be attended by the highest parliamentary officials of EU membership candidate countries.
The conference will be officially opened at the Palace of Serbia on Tuesday, 7 July, at noon, by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
Afterwards, the EU candidate countries’ speakers of parliament will have a panel, which is open to the media.
The topic of the dialogue is "European integration in new geopolitical circumstances: the role of parliaments of candidate countries in strengthening European cooperation and advancing the process of accession to the European Union".
On the sidelines of the Conference, at 3:30 pm, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, will have a bilateral meeting with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
The Belgrade Conference, as a joint initiative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences of different countries’ European path, and a chance for joint and synchronised action on the path to membership. The role of national parliaments in European integration and various models for strengthening interparliamentary cooperation of candidate countries will also be discussed.
