40th Sitting of the European Integration Committee

At the sitting held on 21 June, the members of the European Integration Committee reviewed the Bill on Simplified Employment for Seasonal Jobs, submitted by the Government.

Following the presentation of the representative of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs wherein he explained that the Bill had been harmonized with EU directives and moved to pass it by urgent procedure, the Committee members accepted the Bill in principle.

The Ministry representatives said that the Bill is instrumental for suppressing the grey economy and informal employment in Serbia. Unregistered workers are denied the most basic rights such as social and pension insurance and the informal employment in agriculture due to its typical seasonal production is especially troublesome. The position of seasonal workers will be improved through the use of an electronic platform to simplify the bureaucratic procedure for their registration under, usually, temporary and casual employment contracts.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Deputy Chairperson Elvira Kovacs, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dusica Stojkovic, Milorad Haji Stosic, Olivera Pesic, Zvonimir Djokic, Zarko Micin, Tanja Damnjanovic Tomasevic, Vera Jovanovic and Dubravka Filipovski.
