22nd Sitting of the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government

At the sitting held on 21 March, the Committee on the Judiciary, Public Administration and Local Self-Government reviewed the High Judicial Council 2012 Activity Report and the State Prosecutorial Council 2012 Activity Report.


The Report on the work and most important activities of the High Judicial Council in the past year was presented by the High Judicial Council Vice President, Mirjana Ivic. In the ensuing debate the Committee members asked about the reinstatement of judges, criteria for the assessment of their work, election of court presidents, number of outstanding cases and similar. The Committee adopted the Report by a majority of votes, and the conclusions proposal to be forwarded to the National Assembly will be adopted at one of the upcoming Committee sittings.

Following a debate, the Committee adopted the State Prosecutorial Council 2012 Activity Report, also by a majority of votes, elaborated by Branislav Stamenkovic, member of the State Prosecutorial Council. Among other things, he stressed that the public prosecutors offices have processed 100% of their cases and announced that the State Prosecutorial Council should soon pass the code of ethics which had been sent to the EU delegation for an opinion. Another key document that the State Prosecutorial Council is to pass in the near future is the rulebook on the valuation of the work of prosecutors and deputy prosecutors, said Stamenkovic.
