21st Sitting of the Culture and Information Committee

At the sitting held on 2 November 2018, the members of the Culture and Information Committee reviewed the Ministry of Culture and the Media Activity Information for the period July-September 2018.

The Ministry of Culture and the Media Activity Information was presented by State Secretary Aleksandar Gajovic and Ministry Secretary Igor Jovicic who briefed the Committee members on the Ministry’s programme and activities in the reporting period.

Speaking of culture, State Secretary Aleksandar Gajovic said that in the reporting period the Ministry worked on the development and advancement of culture and art, monitored and researched the situation in the field, worked on the development and advancement of literary and musical expression, painting and applied arts.

Speaking of the media, the Ministry focused on the public broadcasting service, implementation and preparation of media laws, public media enterprises, monitoring foreign media agencies, especially national minority media.

Gajovic also said that the Ministry encouraged cooperation on the protection of cultural heritage and expression and emphasized its excellent cooperation with ten embassies in Belgrade.

In the ensuing debate, the Committee members gained further information about some of the current media issues, reminding that 2 November is the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists. They spoke about the progress of the media strategy draft which should, utilizing European experiences, contribute to the improvement of the media environment in Serbia.

The Committee members went on to accept the Ministry of Culture and the Media Activity Information for the period July-September 2018, by majority vote.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Mirko Krlic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dr Ana Stevanovic, Haji Milorad Stosic, MA Jadranka Jovanovic, Dragana Kostic, Snezana Paunovic, Dr Predrag Jelenkovic, Aleksandar Jugovic, Jasmina Obradovic and Prof. Dr Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic.
