15th Sitting of the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee

At the sitting held on 6 September, the Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Committee considered the situation in agriculture – autumn farming, Ministry measures.

State Secretary Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Jelena Blagojevic said that the high temperatures had adverse effects on the yield of wheat, soybean and sunflower. However, this year's wheat yield would, according to her, be sufficient to cover domestic needs and the purchase price per kilogram would range from 23.80 to 24.50 RSD. The purchase price of corn ranges from 25 to 25.20 RSD per kilogram, 71-72 RSD for soybean and 55 RSD per kilogram for sunflower.

The yield of fruit was 20-30% lower than last year, but the State Secretary stressed that this would be compensated by record prices for the purchase of raspberries, blackberries and plums. Also, strawberries achieved a record yield.

Blagojevic went on to stress that the economic situation of agricultural households has significantly deteriorated, that the cattle sector is at an all-time low and the Ministry is working to support and assist the dairy sector, as well as the meat production sector. Blagojevic also said that the premium for milk would be increased from the previous 7 to 10 RSD per litre.

Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic requested additional information about the assistance to milk producers, especially those not covered by the premiums.

Following a constructive discussion, the Committee unanimously adopted a Conclusion concerning the item on the agenda for the sitting.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Marijan Risticevic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Momir Stojilkovic, Olja Petrovic, Velibor Stanojlovic, Nenad Filipovic, Goran Kovacevic, Milija Miletic, Stanislav Janosevic, Nikola Kozovic, Arpad Fremond, Tijana Davidovic and Zarko Bogatinovic.
